I’m often asked how the Converse sneakers series came about. I found my 20 year old pair of old vintage Chuck Taylor All Star Americana Converse Stars n Stripes trainers (that I used to wear all the time when studying at Univerity) still in their box hiding at the back of my wardrobe. At a loss for something a new to paint I thought these would make a great series as waves of teenage nostalgia and memories came flooding back. The Andy Warhol Campbells soup Converse really do exist. I own a pair – they’re valuable, very rare and sometimes get worn to ‘Private Views’.

Basquiat Converse Sneakers

The original oil on canvas painting is available, sized at 24″ x 36″ (61cm x 91cm).
Limited edition prints are still available from an edition of 100 and sized at 16″ x 23″ (42cm x 59cm) are still available. Each is printed on Somerset Velvet acid-free paper with Archival Inks, and hand embellished by the artist with silver leaf on the crowns making each print unique.
Every limited edition print is signed and numbered by the artist and comes with its own certificate of authenticity. The prints are shipped rolled in a cardboard tube.
NB – frames are not included with the prints.
